Nirvana Beads is supporting a project in Burkina Faso (ESPRI-Moringa) which focuses on establishing a social entrepreneurship model of moringa leaf production to combat malnutrition, contribute to reforestation and create equitable livelihood opportunities in Burkina Faso.

The construction of the Agro-processing facility was completed. Now ESPRI Burkina Faso is just reaching the commercialization stage where we will begin producing moringa based products (powder, capsules, etc) that are then made available and affordable to people suffering from malnutrition, as well as people seeking a heightened state of wellness. Through this program we wish to prove that the moringa oleifera tree can be both an economically viable and localized solution to malnutrition in the region.

100% of the moringa leaves are ecologically grown and sourced in Bissiri village. The leaf processing is cooperatively carried out by Bissiri-based Fulbés Pottal women’s association.

 WHAT IS MORINGA?

Native to Northern India, this amazing tree can be found growing in most tropical regions from Southeast Asia and Africa to the Caribbean and Central America. It holds the potential to serve as a social, environmental and economic solution for many of the world’s poorest nations. Moringa is a fast growing, drought tolerant tree with a myriad of practical uses.

For centuries, people have used various parts of the moringa tree for both food and medicine. The leaves may be eaten raw or cooked. The young bean shoots, also called drumsticks, are a staple in South India and many other parts of the world.  The dried leaf powder is a powerful supplement and medicine containing a high concentration of bio-available nutrients.
